Overview
This video series covers the latest data on transvenous and subcutaneous ICD devices, focusing on shared decision-making and their practical applications in preventing sudden cardiac death. Moderated by Dr Blandine Mondésert (Montreal Heart Institute and University of Montreal, CA) and Dr Ulrika Birgersdotter-Green (University of California San Diego, US), this webinar delves into the long-term benefits and innovations in Subcutaneous Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (S-ICD) therapy.
Viewers will gain insights into S-ICD and leadless pacing, alongside an analysis of Anti-Tachycardia Pacing (ATP) studies, including APPRAISE-ATP and MODULAR-ATP, to enhance treatment strategies and optimise patient outcomes in cardiovascular care.
Learning Objectives
- Understand the latest data on transvenous and entirely subcutaneous implantable cardioverter defibrillator (S-ICD) devices including the practical implications this data has on shared decision making
- Evaluate long-term efficacy and applications of S-ICD and leadless pacing in sudden cardiac death prevention
- Understand the long-term use and outcomes of S-ICD therapy
- Assess the integration of leadless pacing and S-ICD therapy in the context of preventing sudden cardiac death
- Analyse clinical insights and data from anti-tachycardia pacing (ATP) studies for improved treatment strategies
- Explore the clinical insights and benefits of ATP as detailed in the APPRAISE-ATP study
- Examine the data from the MODULAR-ATP study to enhance understanding of ATP's role in sudden death prevention and its integration with other therapies

Ulrika Birgersdotter-Green
Cardiologist
Dr Ulrika Birgersdotter-Green is a board-certified cardiologist, specialising in heart rhythm disorders and cardiac device implantation. She leads the Pacemaker and ICD Service at UC San Diego Health and directs one of the largest lead extraction programmes in the western US.
Her research focuses on arrhythmia mechanisms, cardiac resynchronisation therapy and advancing cardiac device implantation techniques. She plays a key role in major clinical trials on biventricular pacing for heart failure and new device technology.
Blandine Mondésert
Cardiologist
Dr Blandine Mondésert is a cardiologist at the Montreal Heart Institute and a clinical associate professor at the University of Montreal, CA. She specialises in electrophysiology, focusing on adult congenital heart diseases. Her expertise includes lead extraction and new cardiac device technologies.
Dr Mondésert trained in extraction techniques at Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Lille, FR. Her interests include lead extraction, atrial fibrillation detection and ablation, left appendage closure and arrhythmias in adult congenital heart disease patients.
Pier D Lambiase
Consultant Cardiologist
Prof Pier Lambiase, PhD, FRCP, BMBCh, is a consultant cardiologist specialising in the treatment of heart rhythm disorders and pacemaker implantation. He graduated from Oxford University in 1992 and trained in cardiology at St Thomas’ and Hammersmith Hospitals. Following completion of a PhD in 2002, he undertook higher specialist training in electrophysiology and became a consultant cardiologist and senior lecturer at the Heart Hospital, UCL in 2006 and was promoted to reader in cardiology in 2012.
He was the British Cardiac Society Young Investigator in 2002 and finalist in the North American Pacing & Electrophysiology Society Young Investigator competition in the same year. He was awarded the British Cardiovascular Society Early Career Award for his research in 2015 and elected Fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society the same year.
Prof Lambiase conducts research into the causes and treatment of inherited rhythm disturbances, sudden arrhythmic death…
Claudio Schuger
Cardiologist
Dr Claudio D Schuger is a Professor of Medicine at University of Rochester Medical Center, Rochester, US.
He earned his medical degree from the University of Buenos Aires and completed his residency at Wayne State University. With over 40 years of experience, Dr Schuger is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Lluis Mont
Prof Lluis Mont is Head of the Arrhythmia Section and Atrial Fibrillation unit in the Cardiovascular Clinic Institute, Hospital Clinic in Barcelona, Spain. His research includes AF, cardiac resynchronisation therapy and he has been involved in the Micra IDE study, as well as the Micra Post-Approval Registry. He gives Micra training in his hospital and also serves as proctor.
