AF Symposium 2026 - Prof Roland Tilz (University Heart Center Lübeck, DE) presents updated findings from the STYLE AF study evaluating vascular closure strategies in patients undergoing atrial fibrillation ablation, with implications for procedural efficiency and same-day discharge protocols.
Results demonstrated clear superiority of the vascular closure device across multiple clinically relevant endpoints: accelerated time to hemostasis, markedly reduced time to ambulation, and faster eligibility for hospital discharge. The findings provide foundational evidence supporting same-day discharge protocols for AF ablation.
Building on this work, the ongoing SHAZAM AF study is randomizing patients to same-day discharge utilizing vascular closure devices versus traditional overnight inpatient observation. Investigators hypothesize that the same-day discharge strategy will demonstrate superiority specifically in reducing vascular access complications. Enrollment completion is anticipated in 2026, with results expected for presentation in 2027.
