Biography

Professor Sanders is a clinical academic based at the University of Adelaide, Royal Adelaide Hospital and the South Australian Health and Medical Research Insititute. He is the Director of the Centre for Heart Rhythm Disorders at the University of Adelaide; Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing at the Royal Adelaide Hospital; and the Group Leader for Heart Rhythm Disorders at SAHMRI.

Professor Sanders has been awarded several accolades. Most recently the Distinguished Scientist Award (Clinical) from the Heart Rhythm Society (2024) and the Eric Susman Prize from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (2020) for the best contribution to the knowledge of any branch of internal medicine.Professor Sanders holds the Knapman - NHF Chair of Cardiology Research and is supported by a Practitioner Fellowship from the NHMRC.In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field, Professor Sanders was awarded an L2 Investigator Grant from the NHMRC (2023-2027) for his project "Managing the First Pillar for Atrial Fibrillation and Stroke".
